We see them every day - our friends, neighbors, and family. We recognize their faces, but do we ever really look at them? Do you look at their face? Are you uncomfortable with eye contact?

Eye Contact
A visual connection made as one person gazes into the eyes of another. A highly emotional link established as two people simultaneously observe each other's eyes.

Gazing at another's eyes arouses strong emotions. Thus, eye contact rarely lasts longer than three seconds before one or both viewers experience a powerful urge to glance away. Breaking eye contact lowers stress levels (as measured, e.g., by breathing rate, heart rate, and sweaty palms).

Eyes are important- maybe they really are the window to the soul. But the face; wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, a scar on the nose, pockmarks on the forehead - that is a window to a person's past. I like the way people's entire faces age. Every year we all add a few more wrinkles, lines and scars. These indelible marks are what make all of us individuals. They tell the story of our lives.

So to find out what people really look like, and to get a little bit of the story of their lives, I went around town and asked people if I could take their picture. I also asked them 3 questions:

  • What is your name?
  • How old are you?
  • What is your greatest goal? -Or- What is your greatest achievement? (answer either one)

Below you will see some of the people who were nice enough to answer these questions and have their picture taken.

How this works:

I want to get a picture to represent every single age from 1 to 85. I want to display how people age, how they look different at each age. I can only use one picture of any particular age. So when this page is done, it will have 85 total pictures. I want to see people as they age, as their faces show a little more wear, as they develop more character .

So if some stranger comes up to you and asks, "Can I take your picture?" Go ahead and let them. Just remember to look right into the camera, and let your face tell it's story.

CARL, I LOVE THIS STORIE, THE ONLY THING MISSING IS "YOUR" FACE, AND YOUR EYE'S.WONDERFUL STORY!

  From:  Cory - Date: 24-Oct-05

This is so creative & photographically revealing. I tried to guess the ages of the people before I scrolled down to see it. How beautiful & unique we are at every age & yet our goals are often the same: safe shelter, companionship, raising a family & satisfying work, even triumph in competition - YEAH Matthew! Yet why should I be surprised - I LOVE THIS SITE. But I agree with Jodi - where are you Karl?

From:  Maria Tuccori - Date: 24-Oct-05

Yeah, where is your bright shinning face Karl? (this is a great story)

Well, when I first started the story, I wanted to put on an 'explanation' page. To let people know what this was about. Well, since the project didn't move as quickly as I hoped, that got cut.

But- here is the page I was going to use to explain it- along with my picture. see the page.

Jeff you are cute and that is good that you joined the military, do you like it or do you wish to be at home with your family

Awesome project Karl. You did and are doing a great job. This is a powerful project. Interesting/great reading. Once completed I scrolled backwards to see the faces getting younger. I must admit I teared up as my own life fell short of completed goals and things I have wanted to accomplish. We only live once, I hope everyone who reads this page will REMEMBER...LIFE DOESN'T REWIND AND YOU CAN'T SCROLL BACK, ENJOY!!!!

Very interesting. I lived in Woodland from '83 to 95' and have since been all over the world. I still think about Woodland alot, it's a great town. This website is awesome, very creative. I would have been interested if I didn't know anything about Woodland.
