About this Project

This is one of the few projects on InsideWoodland that I've felt the need to expand on, and to explain. This has been a big project, and it was a lot of work involving a lot of people.

Why did you do this project?
I thought it would be interesting just to see the differences between people, and how we all age.

When and where were the pictures taken?
All of the pictures were taken in Woodland in the Summer/Fall of 2005.

Where did you find people?
I went all around town, and took pictures of a lot of people.

How many people refused?
A lot of people said, "No" they did not want their pictures taken - much more so than on any other story. I got the most, "No's" from people who were most similar in background to me - white men in their 30's and 40's. Does that mean that these men are less trusting? Or does it mean that they just suspected me of doing something weird. I don't know.

You took my picture, why didn't you use it?
I strictly adhered to the '1 person per age' rule that I set. I had to get rid of a LOT of pictures. I didn't choose anyone based on beauty, or friendship, or anything like that. I chose every picture based on how human it looked.

Who put this project together?

Well, usually I try to remain fairly anonymous on this site. But, if 81 other people are willing to have their portrait displayed, I think it's only fair that I put mine here too.

Greatest goal: Give more than I get.

CARL, I LOVE THIS STORIE, THE ONLY THING MISSING IS "YOUR" FACE, AND YOUR EYE'S.WONDERFUL STORY!

  From:  Cory - Date: 24-Oct-05

This is so creative & photographically revealing. I tried to guess the ages of the people before I scrolled down to see it. How beautiful & unique we are at every age & yet our goals are often the same: safe shelter, companionship, raising a family & satisfying work, even triumph in competition - YEAH Matthew! Yet why should I be surprised - I LOVE THIS SITE. But I agree with Jodi - where are you Karl?

Yeah, where is your bright shinning face Karl? (this is a great story)

Well, when I first started the story, I wanted to put on an 'explanation' page. To let people know what this was about. Well, since the project didn't move as quickly as I hoped, that got cut.

But- here is the page I was going to use to explain it- along with my picture. see the page.

Jeff you are cute and that is good that you joined the military, do you like it or do you wish to be at home with your family

Awesome project Karl. You did and are doing a great job. This is a powerful project. Interesting/great reading. Once completed I scrolled backwards to see the faces getting younger. I must admit I teared up as my own life fell short of completed goals and things I have wanted to accomplish. We only live once, I hope everyone who reads this page will REMEMBER...LIFE DOESN'T REWIND AND YOU CAN'T SCROLL BACK, ENJOY!!!!

Where did everybody go?I graduated in 1971 from the old high school. Have any pictures from that era? I loved Woodland,it was a great place to grow up in.Wish I still lived there on Woodland Avenue, right by the park and tennis courts.Remember the 68 Rose Parade? Yea it was a big deal back in those days for the band and community. Thanks for all the great photos you have shown. Joe

Very interesting. I lived in Woodland from '83 to 95' and have since been all over the world. I still think about Woodland alot, it's a great town. This website is awesome, very creative. I would have been interested if I didn't know anything about Woodland.
