These are stories I made up.

Why make up stories? Well, why not. After writing my other stories (the interviews and stuff) for a few years, I started to get into a rut. Everything started to be the same.

So rather than boring all of you with more of the same, I figured I would start a whole new series. A series of fictional stories that all take place in Woodland. I hope to keep this going- and pretty soon you'll get to know a lot of the characters in my made-up Woodland.

I expect the response to be sharply divided. Some people will like these stories, others will be disgusted. Some people may read them and accuse me of all types of horrible things. Or tell me I'm sick. I don't know. Hey, maybe you'll like them. Anyway, I suggest you read on, and at least try some out, and comment! (How many other hack writers are willing to let the public comment on their work?)

One warning though, this is not the Hallmark channel.

The circus is coming to town! Elephants, clowns and firetrucks, what could possibly go wrong? (if you like Stephen King, read this!)

This is way too long to read on-line, so print it out (26 pages) and settle into bed for this one.

12,100 words by far the longest thing here. But this is my favorite story up here so far. Read this story

The Wolf is a novel I was writing about a guy who gets paid to bring illegals back to Mexico (the Wolf is opposite of a Coyote). I got about three quarters of the way through when I thought, "Who would want to read this?"

So I've included two chapters from The Wolf. Both of them are essentially character introductions, but I think each stands up well on it's own. Personally, The Rooster is one of my favorite characters, but you may feel otherwise. Please leave feedback on these, I hope to finish the story if people like it.

This was the first piece of fiction on InsideWoodland. Originally posted as an April Fool's joke. My goal was to have people believe the story, and to start an urban legend.

You have been playing "Second Life" too long. :-) I really prefer the true stories of Woodland and its residents. Please...........

Your "REAL" stories are so much better. Hope you stick to them. You did have people talking about the Doris Nelson story...We knew the building but none of the story....

Karl, I enjoy the real life stories so much more. I can make up fiction in my own head (and often do) When I was a wee lad of about 7-8 years old, I would watch the first 10 minutes of a movie and then leave it. I had the ending all figured out and my ending was generally better than the story writers.

Now go find some real people to talk about.

I, for one, welcome the new direction and love the old one.

Mr. Inside Woodland has just created another celebration of Woodland, another opportunity for us to consider different things about the place in which we all live.

And for those of you who instantly criticize the writing or the fact that it is fiction, please remember that it is VERY difficult to sit down and write a complete story, fiction or otherwise.

I LOVE the fiction stories! I appreciate the hard work and time you spent creating these and I think the people (who probably didn't even read it) who say either they don't like or can do better probably don't read books and really can't come up with a better ending in their head.

Keep them coming, I think it's a nice change but some people can't handle change in any area of their lives, including a website!

Great stories. I love reading about the circus performance downtown, really funny. I swear I recognize some of these characters. Reading about your town in a fiction story gives it an interesting twist.

Maybe you should send "The Wolf" to Bush and Arnold.

Hey Karl!

I forgot to tell you I finished the story Friday after "THE GAME." I loved it. A very original story, I dont think Ive ever read anything quite like that. It was funny too, good job Karl.

Hey, Karl I'm loving the fiction stories. I'm not sure if you remember but during one of the many times I was at your house you explained that if you were to write a novel the first two chapters would be character introductions and chapter three would be a minor conflict, something like "toilet trouble". I never forgot that, I'm not sure why, but hopefully I get to read about some toilet trouble in the future. Keep up the great work!

Hey Mr IW, interesting stories! I enjoy reading your news articles and actually believed the Doris Nelson story! (good writing!) The clown story was definitely twisted...if someone didn't have a clown fear before they read it...they do now! :-) I for one will have my lights out at 10:00 lolThanks for the stories and keep up the good works...it's nice to learn more about the city that I have been a part of for 30 years.
