Have
you ever wanted to wake up in a room of lush trees, chirping birds and flowing
water? What about a magically place with fairies or wizards or wild animals where
your child’s imagination can run wild? Are you a die-hard sports fan who
wants to be reminded it of it every day? Well, local artist, Valerie Krist, is
creating these worlds in homes in Woodland (and Sacramento and Davis) with her
business, Griffmobile
Murals. Whimsical art is her game and puttin’ it on your wall is her,
uh, well, game. You know what I mean. I stole a few moments of her creative time
to find out more.
Your art is really vibrant and whimsical. I see that you also make greeting cards, can you tell me about that and your murals?
In the meantime, I had painted a full-room storybook mural in my niece’s room. It was a big job and took a long time. In fact, my mom was my assistant on that one, (laughing) nice twist, huh? She’s actually very creative and a good painter. I got my “skillz” (Ed. Note: she made sure I added the “z”) from her. Word-of-mouth was how I’ve gotten most of my jobs so far. Are there other ways your planning on getting your mural
work noticed? Where did the name Griffmobile come from?
Your
characters are very unique. Do you ever do Disney, Hello Kitty, Dora the Explorer,
or something like that? But what if they really, really want Strawberry
Shortcake or He-Man character? Moving on. Do you do businesses, too?
Really? What was
it? A mouse for a dog?
